About Rabbits
Rabbits were first bred in captivity by monks in the middle ages for food. As they bred more, they found that some had lop ears, some had short ears, and they were all colored differently. To make a living, they sold them because of their fur and eventually as pets for nobles. It became a status symbol for nobles to have them as they were what mostly people ate. It showed they did not have to eat it to survive.
Today, rabbits are loved all around the world and are considered the "green pet." Everything they use is bio-degradable, down to the bedding.
Rabbits are NOT rodents, as most people mistake, which is another reason why they are so popular. They are lagomorphs, their own species in which the rabbit, the hare, and the pika are all associated with.
Another reason a rabbit is a good choice for young and old is that they do not need shots or a veteranarian. We reccomend keeping a first aid kit on hand, which includes things like hydrogen peroxide, antibiotic ointment that's safe for pets, and some small bandages (the kind that you wrap around, not the Band-Aid).
Before buying a rabbit, it is reccomended that you read about rabbits at least a month before buying so that you can get an idea of what this may cost you, not only money but time.
Please, before you buy, make sure you have enough room to accomodate this kind of rabbit. They are the smallest breed of lop-eared rabbit, but they need at least 1 room that they can safely and securely run around in. They need at least 1 hour of play time, 45 minutes of running around, and 15 minutes of snuggling with family.
If you have any trouble keeping the rabbit, we will gladly take it back from you. Please DO NOT give it to an animal shelter. If an issue arises, please email me and I will arrange to pick it up.
Rabbits need a nutritional diet of 75% hay, 25% food pellets and 5% fresh fruits and veggies. Please make sure they get this amount.
Again, rabbits are a wonderful choice for a pet. We hope this is useful to you and remember that you get a care sheet when you buy a rabbit here!!!!
